Efflorescence

What is it?

It is the process of deposition of white crystalline or brown green or yellow crystalline substance on the surface of plastered surface.

Causes?

It may be caused due to the presence of various salts in the building materials such as bricks, sands, etc.

Remedy?

Dry brushing the efflorescented surface will help in further spreading.
Avoid using water as it might take the salt inside pores.
Applying Bitumen Course above the ground level will prevent the further rise of salt because of capillary action
Mixing 1 part of HCL or H2SO4 to 5 parts of water and applying on the surface and then scrubbing it will help in further increase. After the procedure, wash, clean and dry the surface.

Blistering

What is it?

It is the phenomenon of small, irregular shaped plasters swelling our of the plastered surface.

Causes?

Improper slacking of lime
High Moisture Content
Excessive towelling
Exposure to high heat

Remedy?

Proper slacking
Avoid plastering in extreme temperature >40-degree Celcius
Avoid excessive towelling
