Brinda House: A Contemporary Family Home with Timeless Warmth

Brinda House, designed for a family of four, blends modern aesthetics with traditional elements to create a warm, relaxed, and contemporary home. The clients sought an interior dominated by white tones, with a focus on comfort and a sense of spaciousness. The design features double-height exposed plaster walls, which visually connect the floors, creating a seamless flow of space while highlighting the purity of white as a backdrop for the home’s rich textures.

A key design element in the home is the jali work—delicate, geometric screens that allow for natural light and ventilation, while offering privacy. This traditional feature is paired with contemporary materials like Terracotta bricks and Teak wood, which evoke a sense of nostalgia while grounding the space in warmth and texture. The Terracotta’s cooling properties are particularly beneficial, maintaining a comfortable interior climate despite the heat outside.

The house’s road-facing façade presents a long wall exposed to the harsh southern sun. To combat this, a terracotta brick screen was added, functioning as a double wall to create a buffer between the interior and exterior. This design helps reduce heat, noise, and dust from the street while contributing an elegant, textured surface to the façade.

Inside, the living areas at both the front and rear of the house open into lush green spaces, creating a strong connection between the interior and the outdoors. These green areas not only enhance the aesthetic appeal but also provide a sense of calm and natural light, essential for the family’s wellbeing.

Brinda House successfully integrates modern design with traditional materials and environmental considerations. The result is a home that is both serene and sustainable, offering comfort and timeless appeal in an urban context.
